Biography

Rudolph Berringer is one of the Lunenburg settlers for whom little information exists - he is presumed to have sailed on the Aldernay or the Nancy in 1750[1] [2],. Secondary sources indicate he was born in Bern, Switzerland, and his date of birth reflects an estimated age based on his marriage.

On August 16, 1751, he married Ann Barbara Buchter[2] [3], whose maiden name was Buchter, and who appears to have been a widow at the time of their marriage. Their children included:

  1. Anna Barbara[2] , who was baptized July 12, 1753[3]
  2. Johann[2], who was baptized May 14, 1755, who married mary Elizabeth Deuthof[3]
  3. Johann Gottlieb[2], who was baptized September 26, 1757, married Catherine Elizabeth Oxner and who died in 1845 at 88 years of age[3]
  4. Anna Margareta[2] , who was baptized December 10, 1760[3]

Rudolf Berringer died July 25, 1782[3], and his widow, Ann Barbara (Buchter) Berringer died January 20, 1796[3]
