Zachariah Benson was born on 30 April 1826 in Kenton County, Kentucky, United States, son of Reuben Benson and Winney McCollum.

In the 1860 census Zachariah (age 29) , wife Catharine (age 28) and children James H Benson (age 3), Susan F Benson (age 1) and step-son William H Bennett (age 5) were in Grant County, Kentucky.[1] Zachariah was also in an Agricultural census in 1860 in Grant County. [2]

In the 1870 census Zach L Benson (age 44), wife Cath E (age 39) and children Forrest (age 6) and John Thomas (age 4) were in Cordova, Grant, Kentucky.[3] Zach was also in an Agricultural census in 1870 in Grant County.[4]

In the 1880 census Zachariah (age 54), wife Kate (age 49) and children Forest (age 17), John T (age 14), Eddie (age 9) and Mathew (age 6) were in Williamstown, Grant, Kentucky.[5] Zach was also in an Agricultural census in 1880 in Grant County.[6]

Zachariha was reported to have died on 7 March 1895 in Williamstown, Grant, Kentucky. A source for his death has not been located.
