Biography

Hezekiah was baptised on 22 October 1818 in St Allen, Cornwall, the son of Phillip Bennets and Ann, the family were living in Ventoneague, St Erme, Cornwall at the time.[1] [2]

Hezekiah (age 21 ), son of Philip Bennetts, married Mary George (widowed age 26, daughter of Thomas Nance) by banns on 28 March 1839 in Perranzabuloe, Cornwall, England.[3]

The family moved to Australia. They arrived in South Australia on the ship "Australia” on the 22 Jan 1856. The travelling party consisted of his wife, children, and Elizabeth Ann Vivian, possibly a family friend. Elizabeth was the same age as his eldest living daughter, both Nancy & both were listed as servants in the shipping manifest.[6] [7]

On arrival, they made their way over to Victoria and settled down to live in a tent on the goldfields in Forest Creek.

Hezekiah died on the 26 Jan 1900 while living with his only surviving child, Rebecca in Clifton Hill, Victoria, Australia. [8] [9] He was buried on 28 Jan 1900 in Melbourne General Cemetery, College Crescent, Parkville, Victoria, Australia in an unmarked public grave, Wesleyan K section, with other public burials.[10]
