James, born in 1798. He was the son of Robert Beaty and Catherine Crawford. He was a shoemaker by trade. He emigrated from Ireland to Upper Canada (Ontario) in 1818. He served on Toronto's city council in 1847 and became a newspaper publisher (of The Leader) in 1852. He was a Member of Canada's Parliament from 1867 to 1874.
James Beaty married Sarah Ann Armstrong in 26 Dec 1822 in York, ON, Canada. Sarah was the sister of William Armstrong/William Armstrong? who James Beaty worked with as a Leather Merchant/shoemaker at "Beaty's Leather Shop" in Toronto. They had two children;

In 1825, he petitioned the crown for a grant of 100 acres in Trafalgar Township.[1]
In business, he was the President of the Toronto Roads Co., President of the Building Society, Director of The People's Bank, Western Assurance Co., Grand Trunk Railroad, and the Northern Railway. He was a commissioner for the Provincial Lunatic Asylum and a founding trustee of Toronto General Hospital , Potters Field (?), and Mechanics Institute, and a founder of the House of Industry. He retired from business in 1877.At the time of the Pacific scandal, he suffered severe financial set backs, and retired from both business and politics within a few years. In 1875, due to "financial disabilities", he declared bankruptcy. [2]
James is buried at Toronto Necropolis Cemetery in Toronto, ON, Canada. [3]

In 1834, James sold 100 acres NW 1/2 Lot 5 Conc 6 Trafalgar Twp to Thomas Kowderr (sp?). See image 106 [4] In 1855 Thomas Kowderr sold it to James Earl, husband of Beaty's niece Catherine. Catherine Beaty and James Caesar Earl had married about 1848
