Biography

2Cor. 4:6

  • It has become my privilege to honor family.

Kay was born in 1949. Yes, I'm a "49'er", and if I'd had to pick a time to be born, I think it was then!

I've found out that I have a pretty diverse, rich heritage, and am amazed at the people (family) that I've come to know through my amateur genealogical researching.

Real people, with real life joys and tragedys, that like us all, try to make the best of the life we've been given.

Things I never knew or only somewhat, then being touched by the stories that emerged that made me understand more, who I was and where I came from.

I could not have had this experience without the curiosity that has always been a part of me!

I am grateful to my Grandma Marie for her scrapbook that left enough newsclippings, and other pieces of puzzles, to help as I began this journey. Also for her's and other close relatives photo albums, which I most gladly shared by providing copies to all of family that had interest.

I feel this "passion" to find answers, is in the blood, and I hope to continue to discover more as I'm given the privilege. (Lord willing!)

p.s. To my cohort, with the same passion, Karen, thank you from my heart and soul!

  • In answer to WikiTree's question about my most memorable find, has to be finding my G. Great Grandmother's full name and her correct Mother's name which was wrong on her burial record.

This expanded my tree generations back to pre-Revolutionary War/Colonial days and to France. (See Maxwell-15632 and Duvall-177.) Entry date, Sept. 13, 2023.

You seem to know more of my cousins than I do!

Keep up the excellent work.

Yes Joe, very likely we're related. Thanks!

I don't see a close link right now, but maybe further back in her Haines side. Maybe Matlack-5

Follow-up: Has Joann Haines reached out to you?

Eureka! I found the parents of Mary Ann (Haines) Coon - by accident! I had given up on her; couldn’t find her in “Richard Haines and His Descendants;” she wasn’t linked to any parents on other sites, and no sources before her marriage. And with a name like Mary… impossible, I thought.

But just now, while researching to try to link John Carman Haines and reading a history of Portage and Summit Counties, Ohio, I read among a list of a bunch of children born to Joseph Haines and Elizabeth Carman was “Mary Ann, wife of Jeremiah Koon.” Hurrah! I will message Joe Holloway.

JoAnn, you are relentless! What a super find, and another link, especially for Joe.

Thanks for your extra work.

K, we could be distant Haines cousins. I have Haines of NJ on my maternal side (Mary Ann (Haines) Coon (1820-1910)) but I have yet to connect the dots.

Although I have had my DNA done through Ancestry, I find it difficult to utilize the GEDcom program to apply the results. it would be nice just to have WikiTree automatically connect it. It will probably get added after I'm gone!
