Biography

Mehitable Barrow was born about 1674, daughter of Robert and Ruth (Bonum) Barrow. [1] [2] [3]

She married Adam Wright as his second wife, probably around 1699. [1] [4] Adam Wright was born c 1645, son of Richard and Hester (Cooke) Wright. [2] [5] [3]

They resided in Plymouth and Plympton (now Carver), Massachusetts. [1]

Her father Robert Barrow's will was written December 9, 1707, with a codicil added on December 19, 1707. He mentions:

  • wife Lydia appointed executrix
  • sons Robert, Thomas, and Elisha
  • children of my first wife who have already received their portions[6] [2]

On June 20, 1707, George Barrow, Adam Wright and wife Mehitable Wright, testified that they had received their portions of the the estate of their father Robert Barrow from their mother-in-law, widow Lydia Barrow. [6] [4] [2] [5]

Her husband Adam died at Plympton on September 20, 1724. [2] [3] Mehitable was executor of his estate, and on November 2, 1724, signed his estate inventory, attesting to it's accuracy. [7] [8] [5]

Adam Wright's will was written on April 9, 1723. In it he names his current wife, children from both his marriages and some grandchildren: [8]

  • wife Mehitable, sole executor
  • son John Wright
  • sons Samuel, Isaac and Moses already given their portions
  • grandchildren Joshua and Sarah Pratt, of Esther
  • daughter Sarah, wife of Seth Fuller
  • sons James and Nathan L100 when they reach the age of 21
  • daughter Mary, wife of Jeremiah Gifferd
  • daughter Rachel, wife of Ebenezer Barlow [8] [5] [3]

On December 13, 1744, Mehitable married Deacon John Washburn [9], as his third wife at Kingston. He was born c 1672, son of Philip and Elizabeth (Irish) Washburn. [2]

There were no children of this marriage and the Deacon died June 17, 1750 in his 79th year and was buried in the Old Burying Ground, in Kingston. [2]

Widow Mehitable Washburn of Kingston died in 1754.

Probate

Her son Samuel Wright, the administrator of her estate, provided bond of L200 on August 23, 1754. [10] [11][12]

Her inventory was taken on 9 September 1754 in Kingston.[13]

In 1754, an estate account was recorded which included debts and funeral costs.[14]

finding a b. record for her son Samuel, where the name is shown as "Barrows", and being that the name was highly likely to have been given to the clerk by Mehitabel herself or possibly by her husband, I'm going to re-issue the mere requests, so that we end up with Barrows-43 as the final profile.
