Biography

Private Hickerson Barksdale served in the United States Civil War.

Hickerson was born about 1835. He was the son of William Barksdale and Rosanna Smith.

Both of his parents died while he was still young, so the 1850 US Census finds him in the home of his older sister, Falby, and her husband, Obed Mixon, in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana. The next year he married Drucilla Day in St. Helena Parish.

Hickerson was a Private in Company D, 3rd Regiment of the Louisiana Calvary during the Civil War.

The 1860 and 1870 Census shows Mr. Barksdale and his wife, Drucilla, living in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana.

He passed away in 1880.
