Biography

William Barksdale was part of a Southern Pioneer Family.

William Barksdale born 1787 in Charlotte County, Virginia is the son of Abner and Elizabeth "Betsy" Garrett. [1] Bible Record of Davis Short Family shows that William F's Father was name Albner not Abner. This is most likely due to pronunciation of the name and spelling mores of the time.[2]

Marriage Hancock County, Georgia 1810

Records indicate that William Barksdale married in Hancock County, Georgia to Rosanna Smith in 1810. Rosanna Smith is most likely the daughter of Clark Smith show on the 1820 Census living two doors down from Abner and William Barksdale in Pike County, Mississippi.[3]

I have wondered about his given names. I think he may be named after William Fleming https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Fleming_(governor)
