My father Reg Ball did extensive research on our families ancestors well before there were search engines and even before the World Wide Web (WWW) existed. He travelled often from Australia to Great Britain and paid many researchers to assist in his quest. As a result I and my brother and sister, have inherited many, many boxes of hard copies of his searches.

I am slowly going through this information and am adding it to Wikitree for current and future generations.

I have become passionate about Genealogy and am interested in helping others in adding to the world wide Wikitree family.

My husband's family escaped from Latvia during World War II when the Soviets invaded their country. I'm keen to find information about his family but am finding this much more difficult. I would be interested in communicating with others who also might be researching people from Latvia.

Hi Carolyn,

We're contacting you for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. We really appreciate your involvement in the Project in the last year. Thank you so much for all your help to improve Australian profiles on WikiTree.

Please could you reply to this message, or send me a private message to let us know if you'd like to stay on in the Project, and if you'd like to make any changes to the teams that you belong to. The teams are listed on Australia Project Teams.

If you've moved on to other things for the moment, that's absolutely fine. We'd appreciate if you'd let us know so that we can remove you from the membership list.

Over the past year, Australia Project members have been more active on Discord. We're finding it a fun way to communicate as a project. As you are already a member of the dedicated Australia Project server (WikiAustralia) where all our chat channels are located, we hope you'll join the chat! It's a great way to communicate with other members on your project team/s, or for any general questions.

We're always happy to receive any ideas or suggestions that you have to make our project even better.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

The Australia Project Leadership Team ~ Gillian, Margaret and Veronica

Hi Carolyn,

It's time for the annual Australia Project membership checkin. Thank you so much for contributing to the project and Australian profiles on WikiTree during the last year. We really appreciate you!

If you would like to stay in the project, please reply to this message or send me a private message to let us know that you would like to stay on. Alternatively, if your WikiTree and research interests have moved away from Australia, please let us know and we can remove you from the membership list for the moment. You will, of course, be very welcome to rejoin the project down the track whenever you want to.

We are also keen to know if you want to make any changes to the team or teams that you want to focus on. Take a look on Australia Project Teams to see what teams there are to choose from. If you want to discuss this, or have any questions or suggestions about the Australia Project we'd love to hear your ideas.

Thanks for taking the time to get back to us!

Kind Regards Margaret Haining Membership Coordinator

Thanks Gillian, I'm enjoying my involvement with the Wizards of Aus team and their many 'thons' and the support from the discussions in the Google Groups. As I'm learning more I'm involving myself with more groups. As others have said Wikitree is certainly a rabbit/worm hole that it is easy to get lost down!

I'm also enjoying assisting others who have reached out to me after I have done a Data Doctor Suggestion on a profile that they are managing.

Hi Carolyn,

Thanks for having a Big Heart and adopting Orphan Profiles. You will want to read this After adopting orphans FAQ to understand what to do next and it explains the special attention those profiles need.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Hi Carolyn, when you create a new category, make sure you add the required parent categories and category content, see Rookwood Lutheran Cemetery. You're welcome to add any category requests to our Australia Project category request page.

Cheers, Margaret

Thanks Margaret, I was trying to follow the guidelines but didn't add anyone else as I don't think it is correct. Are you able to correct it for me please. I didn't know what to put as the source.
posted by Carolyn Ball
Hi Carolyn, yes I have corrected it, added the parent categories and the cemetery category info box. As it's a section of the Rookwood General cemetery, it doesn't have it's own Find a grave listing. That doesn't matter as there is also a category for the Jewish, Anglican and so on sections. The parent categories were the important things that were missing. If you look at it now, you'll see the difference.
Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.

Hi Carolyn

Thank you for upgrading. I am pleased to welcome you as a member of the WikiTree family. Your contributions will go a long way to joining the world’s trees together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Please add as much information as you can, with sources, as it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

Have fun collaborating on your ancestors
