Biography

Henry Baldwin was born about 1765, probably in Frederick county, Virginia, but other references show Pennsylvania. His parents were Henry Baldwin and Margaret.[1][2]

He married Susannah Maulsby on October 21, 1790 in Frederick county, Virginia. They had eight children.[1][2]

  1. Rebecca N Baldwin was born October 13, 1792.
  2. Matilda Baldwin was born on July 15, 1795.
  3. Merchant Baldwin was born on September 5, 1797 in Union County, Tennessee.
  4. Margaret Baldwin was born on August 16, 1800 in Union County, Tennessee.
  5. Lydia Eleanor Baldwin was born on August 23, 1802 in Union County, Tennessee.
  6. Henry Baldwin was born on November 3, 1804 in Union County, Tennessee.
  7. Susannah Baldwin was born on February 10, 1807 in Union County, Tennessee.
  8. Caleb Baldwin, died in infancy.

Henry lived in New Garden, North Carolina and later in Union County, Tennessee in a farm three miles southwest of the Meeting House at Lost Creek. His children attended school in Knox County, Tennessee. He was a farmer and also had a hatter shop.[2]

Henry died in about 1814 in Tennessee. His widow Susanna moved in with her daughters in Indiana and then remarried.[2][3]

Research Notes

His son's census record shows that both Henry and his wife were born in Pennsylvania.
