Communication Preferences: I am interested in communicating private message with anyone who shares the same ancestors. Here is my family tree.
I have trees on FamilySearch.org and Ancestry.com that go back further than this tree. I'm refining my process on here as time goes on, on how to research ancestors and the correct protocol for citing sources (pre 1700). I go through each branch of my Tree one generation at a time, supported by actual sources. I don't pursue a branch any further once I hit a wall where adequate sources are lacking. I'm interested in collaboration on pre 1700 English families to support my research-thanks.

Hello!

I noticed that you're working on pre-1700-era profiles. This is just a reminder that certifying to work on these types of profiles means that you agree to add valid sources as outlined in the Pre-1700 Certification Quiz. Family Search records have a "Copy Citation" button that allows a citation containing the relevant details to be copied and pasted into your profiles.

Thanks Jacqueline. I do add Sources to all my pre-1700 Profiles but I've been doing it manually which is slow and plodding. I hadn't been able to figure out how to Copy/Paste the Links from FamilySearch sources onto Wiki but I now have that sorted out via "Copy Citation...then "CTRL V" from my PC's Clipboard onto where I need the citation link located. Thank you for nudging me into being more efficient!

Hi Tony,

Thanks for having a Big Heart and adopting Orphan Profiles. You will want to read this After adopting orphans FAQ to understand what to do next and it explains the special attention those profiles need.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Hello!

It is important to have Pre-1700 profiles properly sourced at the time you create them. If you do not have sources, it is best to not create the profiles until you have proper sourcing. Here is the link to the Pre-1700 Quiz guidelines for you to review. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles

Here also is a link to the various projects Pre-1700 sourcing guidelines as well. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Reliable_Sources_for_Pre-1700_Profiles

If you have questions, the G2G forum is a great place to ask for help.

Thanks!

I'm aware of the requirements. I have been very busy filling in source and bio information on a lot of previously input pre 1700 profiles. The 2 new profiles I just created tonight will be sourced tomorrow as promised-I'm just too tired at the moment to complete those.

HI Tony, Family Search gives you a great source citation for their sources. Just copy the citation where is says "copy Citation". such as

"England, Cheshire Parish Registers, 1538-2000," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:F3FG-52S : 10 February 2018), Arthur Hollinworth and Elizabeth Acton, 06 May 1704, Marriage; citing item 4 p 375, All Saints, Runcorn, Cheshire, England, Record Office, Chester; FHL microfilm 1,656,552.

Hi Tony. You recently added parents to Marshall-4436, Marshall-11824 and Owsley-67 without any proof/source. When you add parents to pre-1700 profiles, please remember to add a source and some detail from that source so other WikiTreers don't have to research those connections.

Thanks! Traci

Thanks Traci. I was getting to that source input but got sidetracked. I have input more source info for Marshall 4436. Will complete source input process on the other 2 profiles you referenced ASAP.

Hi Tony,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

I dumped my account a few months ago, and I'm starting over, after building out my trees more on Family Search and Ancestry. Those 2 sites will be my main sources for the tree info here. I have added a number of post-1700 profiles to help link to my pre-1700 ancestors on here. My other 2 trees have a LOT of pre-1700 data but I will only add new profiles from that batch VERY selectively, because of the challenges in having solid/reliable sources other than User-created Trees. Ideally I will use existing pre-1700 profiles as much as possible to expand my tree on Wiki.

Please consider joining the Holmes Name Study and if you want to learn more about your deep ancestral Holmes genealogy then I recommend having a male Holmes in your family test their y-chromosome or y-dna. I used FamilyTreeDNA and am very happy with their service.

Ryan: I'm not currently focused on a deep dive into my Holmes ancestry but will keep your note on file. My GGM was Annie Elizabeth Walker Holmes; her ancestors were from the Haworth and Wilsden area of Yorkshire. Cheers.

Thanks. I have many years of experience doing on-line ancestry research. My Tree is also on genesreunited.co.uk and familysearch.org. I'm mainly on here to try and find connections to my Bairstow branch that date BEFORE 1728.
