Noted American urban planner, architect, educator and author. He was known as the "Father of Modern Philadelphia."[1] He was Executive Director of the Philadelphia City Planning Commission from 1949 to 1970.
Mr. Bacon designed Love Park which became a skateboarding mecca and home of the X Games. Mr. Bacon protested a ban on skateboarding by skateboarding in Love Park. The ban is still in effect.

Bacon was the father of six children: two sons, noted actor Kevin Bacon, musician Michael Bacon, and four daughters, Karin, Elinor, Hilda and Prudence (later Kira). His wife was Ruth Hilda Holmes, a teacher and liberal political activist.
He graced the cover of Time Magazine in 1964.[1]
