In the England Census of 1851, Mary Axford (aged 27 and a servant) was probably recorded in the household of George Wicks (52) and his wife Eliza Wicks (49) in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. By 1861, she was probably recorded as a Housekeeper in the household of William Carmack in Clifford Street, St Mary, Hampshire, England. She was aged 34 and single. Also in the household was her sister Ruth Axford 25 and a Servant).
At the age of about 39 she married James Lanfear in 1866 Westbury, Wiltshire[1]. James had been widowed the year previous. They appear to have remained childless.

Her husband James passed away on 22 December 1882.
Eight years after his death, Mary married, secondly, Jesse Biggs on 7 April 1890 in Westbury, Wiltshire[2]. He was a Retired Factory Foreman. Notice of their marriage was printed on page 5 of the Warminster Herald dated 12 April 1890:

She passed away on 7 February 1912 aged 85, her death being registered at Westbury, Wiltshire on the same day[4]. Causes of death were recorded as Senile Decay and Cardiac Failure. The informant was Maria Webb, present at death.
