Biography
- Charles Eldridge Avery was born on March 6, 1794 in Groton, Connecticut. His parents were both 1st cousins and 3rd cousins.
- He graduated from Middlebury College in 1818, studied theology, and was a clergyman in the Presbyterian church in Columbus, Smyrna, Truxton, and Scipio, all in New York.
- Charles married Asenath Cheadell on March 6, 1820, at Hartwick, NY.
- They had 8 children: Mary (1820); Charles E. Jr. (1823); Edward Henry (1824); Herman (1826); Maria Lauriana (1828); Charlotte Amelia (1830); Irving (1832); Wellington T. (1839).
- In 1840 he was living with his wife and 6+ children. They include: Charles E., Edward, Maria Lauriana, Charlotte, Irving, & Wellington.
- He died September 5, 1854, in Weedsport, Cayuga, New York and is buried in Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn, NY.
