Jabez was born in 1777. He is the son of Gideon Averill and Elizabeth Morgan. He married Abby Kinyon. Jabez died in 1818 and an unsourced genealogy tree on Ancestry.com shows his death on 27 Jan 1818 at Groton, New London, Connecticut.
