Biography

George Atkins Sr migrated from England to Michigan.

The son of George Atkins (1803-) and his wife, Mary Ann, George Atkins was at Whitechapel, in Middlesex, in 1835,^[1] being christened at Saint Peter's Church in St. Pancras on October 20, 1835.^[2] He lived with his family at Wellington Square,^[3] residing in 1851 on Cromer Street.^[4] His siblings included:

George married Emily (Hurst) Atkins, the daughter of Henry John Hurst and Frances Elizabeth Jackson Franks, marrying at Saint Pancras Old Church in London on November 12, 1865^[5] and having three known children together. They made their home in 1871 at Gray's Inn Lane in St. Pancras,^[6] soon immigrating to the United States and taking up residence in Lansing, Michigan,^[7] where George worked as a tailor.

George Atkins passed away in Lansing, Michigan^{[citation needed]} around the age of 55 and is buried at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lansing.^[8]
