Alfred Ashford was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, Post 1, Rockford, Illinois.

Alfred was born in 1842 in Somerset, England. He was the son of John Ashford and Elizabeth Tanner. ^[1]

His family came to the United States in 1858 and settled in Rockford, Illinois. ^[2]

In February 1865, Alfred enlisted with the 147th Illinois Infantry. He mustered out in January 1866. ^[3][4][5]

He married Nancy McPherson in 1865.

They farmed in Rockford.

Alfred passed away in 1919. ^[6][7]
