Henry Armistead was born around 1756. He was a son of Anthony and Mary Tucker Armistead. There is an absolute dearth of documentation on Henry Armistead. So how can his parentage be determined? Of particular note, Anthony's children are all prefaced with the wording among others in the 1910 Armistead Family book.[1]This suggests the author did not know all of the children. Henry for example, is absent from the book. He is not absent, but present in North Carolina during or right after the Revolution. This follows the pattern of four other sons of Anthony and Mary Armistead. Four of his brothers also moved to North Carolina.
Henry is found in the Halifax District of Edgecombe County, North Carolina in 1790.[2]
The census is the single contemporary record so far uncovered, that proves his existence. His household consisted of himself, two males under sixteen, and one female.
Henry appears to have married a Lassiter girl, as described in the research notes. Only one child is currently known. His daughter Delilah was married by 1790 and most likely it is Henry's wife that is listed on the census. It is possible that Henry and his family left the area before 1800. Alternatively Henry died about age forty four, and perhaps his wife died about the same time. He was the namesake of his great grandson Henry Armistead Olivent.
Research Note
DNA analysis of sixteen individuals on GEDMATCH suggest Henry's wife was from the Lassiter family. This is currently being studied further. Potential spouses were:
