Robert succeeded his father as the 2nd Baronet Arbuthnot, of Edinburgh [U.K., 1823] on 18 September 1829.[1] He served in Bombay Civil Service and was a collector and Magistrate in Amedabad, Bombay until 1847.
Marriage
Robert married Anne Fitzgerald (b. c.1808 - d. 6 Mar 1882), on 20 March 1828,[5] at Bombay, India.[6][2] She was a younger daughter of:
Field Marshall Sir John Forster Fitzgerald, GCB, CBE,[5]
and his first wife Charlotte, dau. of Hon. Robert Hazen of St. John's, New Brunswick.[5]
He died in Florence, Italy on 4 March 1873. He was buried in the Florentine Protestant Cemetery but later reinterred at the Cemetery of the Allori on 17 March 1882.[11]
