Biography

1776 Project
Lieutenant Noel Andrew served with Rhode Island Militia during the American Revolution.

Noel Andrew was from Coventry RI, and is recorded on the 1777 Rhode Island military census. He was a prosperous farmer and miller in Pownal VT, and father of 8 girls.

His name can be found on an early deed in Pownal as from St. Croix NY. This indicates a small community in Hoosic NY, (contiguous to Pownal) that contained a church that may be of interest in further research. Noel is known to have indicated he was a Methodist in later life. This was not the popular religion of the day.

Noel Andrew and his family of ten persons were enumerated in 1790 (City, County, State): Pownal, Bennington, Vermont

Noel Andrew and his family of five persons were enumerated in Pownal, Vermont in 1810

Noel Andrew and his family of two persons were at home in 1820 (City, County, State): (Shaftsbury) Bennington, Bennington, Vermont. Census Enumeration Date: August 7, 1820. Nearby was widow Rachel Andrew (This is nephew Noel if it was actually in Shaftsbury. Noel is listed with wife (Lillis) in Pownal in 1820,)

The image posted on Find A Grave of his memorial stone is engraved with ``Lieut Noel Andrew.`` Beside the stone is posted the US Flag and the metal grave marker.

Is there a source for his service in the American Revolution? I'm helping correct / update the 1776 sticker but need a source to know his service.

Have added census notes and viewed his memorial stone to see his stone calls him Lieut. Have updated his 1776 sticker.
