James Anderson was born about 1805 in Kentucky according to the 1850 census for Nicholas County, Kentucky. [1]

James Anderson married Betsey Hendrix 18 May 1828 in Nicholas County, Kentucky. The marriage was performed by Alexander McClain. [2][3]
James Anderson married his second wife, Mrs. Maria Brown 29 May 1872 in Brown County, Illinois. Her maiden name was Maria Woods and she was the widow of Jonathan Brown. [4]
Residence
They lived in Nicholas County, Kentucky. (see census 1830-1850) [5][6][7]
In 1849 James Anderson sold land in Nicholas County, Kentucky his wife Elizabeth had inherited on the death of her mother Raney Hendricks that was part of her father's estate (John Hendricks). [8]
By 1860, James and his family had moved to Illinois where he was listed in the census for Buck Horn Township, Brown County. (James, age 57, born KY) [9] There was a duplicate listing for him in Missouri. James, age 53, born KY, was enumerated in the household (#957) of his son-in-law Philip Hedricks, age 27, born North Carolina in the 1860 census for Granby Township, Newton, Missouri. [10] Philip's wife, Ursenah Anderson, was James Anderson's daughter. Philip's surname is shown in records as Hedrick and Hendrick. The reason for the census duplication may be explained as a family visit.
James Anderson appeared on the Illinois State Census census in 1865 for Brown County, Illinois. Jas. Anderson: 1 male 20-30; 1 male 50-60; 1 female 40-50. Listed on either side of Jas. are Daniel Anderson and Thos. Anderson. [11]

In the 1880 census for Brown Co., IL James Anderson, age 76, born KY is shown as the head of a household that includes his second wife Maria, age 62 born KY and a "nephew" William Woods, age 13, born IL. [12] There are no further records for him and he presumably died after 1880.

↑ E-mails from Kerri Kaczynski received 18 May 2019 and 27 Apr 2024. Kerri compared the kit for Connie Graves on GEDmatch, which did not match to Kerri, but did match an aunt (A071004), uncle (A858237) and second cousin (A208367). Also, Kerri's male second cousin (A208367) has done the y-DNA test at FtDNA and shows the haplogroup is R-BY43543. The Y-DNA tester (A208367) uses the surname of his step-father, Anderton, which is very confusing because his biological father's surname was Anderson.
