Mary Anders was born about 1826 in St Helens, Lancashire, England. ^{[1] [2] [3]} Her parents were James Anders^[3] and Rebecca Anders.^[1]

In the 1841 England census, taken the night of June 6th 1841, Mary Anders (15) was living in Mount Pleasant, Eccleston in Prescot, Lancashire, with parents James Anders (50) and Rebecca Anders (45), and siblings Ellen, James, Alice, Margret, Peter, Thomas and Hugh. ^{[1] [4]}

Mary's father died late in 1841.

By March 30th 1851, Mary was living with her mother and siblings in Eccleston in Prescot, Lancashire. She was a plate glass smoother. ^[2]

Jonathan Marsden, age 22, son of John Marsden, married Mary Anders, 26, daughter of James Anders, on 9 Oct 1853 in Eccleston, Lancashire, England. ^[3]

By April 7th 1861, Jonathan Marsden (31) and wife Mary Marsden (35) were living in St Helen, Lancashire, with children Mary (4) and Alice (2). He was a stone mason. ^[5]

By April 2nd 1871, they were living in Eccleston, St Helens, Lancashire; Mary's mother was living with them. ^[6]
