Faro Amato is born 17 March 1871 in Corleone and baptized the next day. He is the son of Saverio Amato and Giuseppa Colletti. His godfather is Benedetto Rizzo, from Cinisi[1], Saverio's home town. Faro is named after his paternal grandfather.
Faro Amato is the father of Frank "Big Dick" Amato, a Morello gangster. A marriage record for Faro's wife, Antoinette Leema, has not yet been found.
Faro and Antoinette, who is also called Lena, have at least two children, Saverio/Edward (c. 1887) and Frank (1902).
Saverio is born 28 March 1887, according to the record of his burial.[2] He appears in census records as "Edward."

Frank is born 6 November 1902 in Manhattan, the son of Pharo Amato, 31 (b. 1871), and Antoinette Leema, 27 (b. 1875), both of Italy.[4]
Faro appears in the 1905 Los Angeles city directory, an employee of Hughes Manufacturing Co., living at 1412 Elwood.[5]
Faro appears in the 1906 Los Angeles city directory as a laborer, living at 2326 Legrand.[6]
Faro Amato and Luke Sebella, a recent arrival from Corleone, are shot by three African Americans on 17 April 1906 in Los Angeles, California.[7]
The Daily Nevada State Journal reports the shooting occurred on Enterprise St.[7], while The Los Angeles Herald says the fight was at 8th and Wilson Streets.[8] 8th St. is between Wilson and Enterprise Streets.
The 'Los Angeles Herald reports the Italians were leaving a friend’s house in Sacramento St. (between Wilson and 8th), and were at corner of Enterprise and Wilson when their assailants stepped out from behind a growth of large castor beans. Robbery was not evidently the motive of the shooting. The violence is believed to be the result of a race war between "negroes" and Italians in the colony in the neighborhood where the shooting occurred.[7]
Faro was a lumberman by trade, 35 years old (b. 1871), native of Italy.[8]
Faro dies in the Receiving Hospital in Los Angeles, CA, on 19 April 1906 from a “homocidal” gunshot wound. He is about 35 years old, his date of birth unknown. He is a resident of Los Angeles, married, born in Italy, a laborer. His parents names are not known. He is buried in New Calvary on 22 April 1906.[9][10]
Frank dies 28 May 1931 in Manhattan.[11] He is buried in Old St. Raymond's Cemetery in the Bronx.[2]
Saverio dies 13 November 1934. He is buried with Frank.[2]
