Biography

PIERRE ALLAIN is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana, on Plaque 1 Left. Listed with him is Catherine Hebert, his wife, and four children: Jean Baptiste, Marguerite, Simon, Pierre, and Bibianne. Her father Pierre's is the first name on the wall. [1]

Vivienne Allain's parents, Pierre Allain and Catherine Hebert, and her two older siblings were deported by the British in 1755; Vivienne was born in exile in colonial Baltimore. She was not yet born when the war ended and her family was counted upon their release on 7 July 1763, living in Baltimore, Maryland Colony, and with Jean Baptiste, Marguerite and Simon.[2] They remained there until 1767, when they were able to immigrate with other Acadians to Louisiana, now owned by Spain, but welcoming immigrants. On 12 July 1767 in New Orleans, Pierre, age 44; Catherine, age 33; Jean Baptiste, age 17; Simon, age 7; Pierre, age 3; Marguerite, age 16 and Vivienne, 10 months, were on a List of Acadian families who came to Louisiana to be established in the year 1767.[3] The Spanish officials recorded their names in Spanish.[4]

The family settled in St. Gabriel, Louisiana, and were enumerated on the census taken there dated August 1767, by then a family of seven.[5]

When Vivienne was about 24, she married Pierre Moise Foret in St. Gabriel, Louisiana on 12 April 1790.[6]

Their known children were:

  1. Pierre Moise Foret (1796–)[7]
  2. Marie Madeleine Adeleine Forest (1799–)[8]
  3. Michel Rosemond Forest (1801–1807)[9]
  4. Marguerite Ermelande Forest (1804–)[10]
  5. Joseph Hypolite "Pol" Foret (1806)[11]
  6. Pierre Treville Forest (1808–)[12]
  7. Pierre Valmont Forest (1810–)[13]
  8. Augustin Dorville Foret (1812–1865)[14]

Vivienne was called "Mrs. Moyse Foret" when she died in June 1836 in West Baton Rouge Parish. Her funeral and burial took place at St. Joseph Church on 28 June 1836 in East Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was a few years older than her burial record states.[15]
