General Charles Terrington Aitchison was born on 28 May 1823 in Bombay, India, the son of General Andrew Aitchison[1] and his wife, Charlotte. Charles was baptised in Bombay on 3 July 1823.[2][3]
Charles joined the army in June 1842.[4] He served in South Mahratta (1844-1845), as brigadier-major in Persia (1856-1857), in S Mahratta in the Indian Mutiny (1857-1858); and as Commander of the Bombay District (1877-1884). He was General of the BoSC; and retired on unemployed supernumerary list in 1889.[1]
On 28 March 1854 Charles married Annie Acheson, youngest daughter of Alexander William Colquhoun Esq and Justice of the Peace, of Crosh, County Tyrone, at St Peter's Church in Dublin.[5][6]
Charles married Matilda Warr in Kensington in early 1892.[7]
In 1901 Charles Aitchison and his wife Maud (Matilda) were living in Kensington. Charles stated his trade as "Military Pensioned General Indian Army".[8]
In 1911 Charles was living in Kensington with his wife Matilda and a servant. Charles stated his trade as "Indian Army General Pensioner Retired".[9]
Charles died on 5 January 1919.[10][11] Probate to his estate was granted on 14 February 1919 to Matilda Aitchison.[11]
