Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Henry Addison is a part of US Black heritage.

Henry was born about 1837 in Pennsylvania.

At age 13, he was living with the white family of Reverend Amos A. McGinley in Metal, Pennsylvania.

He stood about 5 foot 9 inches (1.75m) tall with a dark complexion, brown eyes and black hair.

Military Service

Private in the all-black 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry regiment, Company K. He was 25 years old, married and working as a mason when he enlisted on 6 May 1863 from Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. Mustered out 20 August 1865.

Company G Private William Ramer also enlisted from Shippensburg, so they may have known each other.
