Ellen Adamson was born in about 1820 in St Helens, Lancashire. She was the daughter of John Adamson, a collier; probably her mother was Ellen Adamson, in whose household she was living in the 1841 census.
Ellen married Richard Phythian on 13 May 1838 in Huyton by Roby, Lancashire. Richard was of full age (21 or more), Ellen was a minor; neither had been married before. Richard was a joiner. Their fathers were named as John Phythian (currier) and John Adamson (collier). The witnesses were James Barrow and Sarah Martindale.
Ellen married William Winder or Winders in 1852, in a registrar-attended ceremony in Prescot district.
Ellen died in 1857 in St Helens, aged 36.
