Biography

Charles was born about 1859. He passed away in 1942.

Arrived S S Orient in Victoria 1883 aged 24, from London., with his wife Fanny aged 24 and son Vernon aged 5 months. Moved to Tasmania 3 years later.

Tas newspapers 5th October 1889: Mr C J Adams of Dilston East Tamar has bred in Victoria and imported to Tasmania 3 specimens of pure Aldermay or Jersey cattle, a bull, a heifer and bullcalf.

Charles' Obituary 2nd October 1942: Aged 83. Came to Tasmania from England in 1883. Employed Websters Wool Store then opened a business as a produce merchant. On April 18th he and his wife celebrated their diamond wedding Anniversay. 3 sons and a daughter: Mrs H Bailey (Blackburn Vic) Messrs R S Adams (Sydney), S R Adams (Manager of Agric. Bank Hobart), and L K Adams (Brisbane) Mr Adams eldest son Vernon and a daughter Mrs G S Richards predeased him.

Charles' as reported in papers, Wedding Anniversary in April, states Mrs Adams was the 2nd daughter of George King of Waltham Abbey Essex and Mr Adams the eldest son of Charles Adams of Maida Vale London. Married April 18 1882 at the Church of St Andrew by the Wardrobe, London.

  • Dorothy Mary Adams born 6th July 1888 Launceston Father is a farmer. Dilston East Tamar. Dorothy became a nurse, joined AIF 29th April 1917 serving overseas France. Spent a lot of time overseas. Married Ronald Mills Bailey 6th June 1921, only son of the late Mr and Mrs J E Bailey Manchester England. Lived Blackburn Victoria 1942.
  • Stanley Rupert Adams born Hobart 1st September 1894 father is a storeman. Living Park St. Enlistment AIF Service No 541 and Officer W 2383 AIF. Joined 17 January 1916 aged 21 years and 4 mths. Married 3rd November 1920 at St Lukes Church Latrobe to Madeline Grace Smith, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J C Smith of Lyning Road Acton London.
  • Reginald Seymour Adams born Hawthorn Vic reg 1886/26683. Died Hobart Tasmania 9th August 1973 aged 86. Cremated Cornelian Bay Cemetery. His Will names a daughter as Margaret Hogan, living Honolulu.
  • Lynton King Adams born Hobart 11th October 1896. Married Louie Binns Wesley Church Hobart 23rd February 1923. Died 13th December 1963 Qld Death reg 1963/B/62599.
  • Mrs G S Richards. DIed before 1942.
