Biography

Vernon was born about 1882. He passed away in 1930.

Arrived Victoria in 1883 on Steamer "S S Orient" at the age of 5 months with his parents Charles John Adams 24 and Fanny aged 24. Tasmania Arrivals have this family arriving as 3rd Class Passengers under 7th Section, the Land Order Warrants issued by the Immigrant of Colonists Aid Corporation London.

Moved to Tasmania 3 years later.

His parents celebrated their Diamond (60th) Wedding anniversary 18th April 1942. Details in the Mercury newspaper state Mr & Mrs C J Adams of Swan St Nth Hobart were married at the Church of St Andrew-by- the- Wardrobe London April 18 1882. Mrs Adams was the 2nd daughter of George King of Waltham Abbey Essex Eng. Charles was the eldest son of Charles Adams of Maida Vale London.

His father died 1st March 1942, Obituary in The Advocate says aged 83. Came to Australia from England in 1883. Employed Websters Wool Store then opened a business as a Produce Merchant. Cremated on 2nd October 1942 Cornelian Bay Cemetery.

Vernon's siblings named in obituary notice of their father are: Mrs H Bailey (Blackburn Vic)., Messrs R S Adams (Sydney), S R Adams (Manager of Agric. Bank Hobart), and L K Adams (Brisbane). Vernon eldest son and daughter Mrs G S Richards were deceased.

A Fanny Adams died aged 88 and was cremated 8th March 1943.

Also arriving at this time are Vernon's grandparents and aunts/uncles: Charles born St Albans Hertfordshire aged 46, Mary 48 and children Alice 18, Harry 16, Frank 14 and Percy 9.

Vernon's death notice in The Mercury names his wife I M Adams and daughters Amy and Jean. His age given as 48 years of 10 Kent Ave, Hobart . A notice from Lodge Loyalty 40 TC also gives notice of his burial at Cornelian Bay Cemetery.
