Biography

When Garry Dwayne Ackerman was born on 9 March 1939, in Walla Walla, Washington, United States, his father, Virgil Ackerman, was 27 and his mother, Emma Harding, was 24.

He lived in Watertown Election Precinct, Walla Walla, Washington, United States in 1940 and 1950.

He married Sylvia Antionette Bartok on 22 February 1962, in King, Washington, United States and they had three children together.

He died on 9 May 2020, in Oregon, United States, at the age of 81, and was buried in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, Multnomah, Oregon, United States.

From Find a Grave: Garry Dwayne Ackerman Pamplin Media Group Wednesday, June 03, 2020 March 9, 1939 to May 9, 2020. Garry was born in Walla Walla, WA to Virgil, and Emma Ackerman. Tommy, his twin, preceded him in death as well as his sisters Joanne Moreno, Sharon Moser, and his parents. After high school, Garry moved to Seattle to start an apprenticeship in pattern making and designing clothing but was drafted into the Army. After his service, he finished his apprenticeship and worked at several companies. In 1980 his family moved from Washington to Gresham and he worked for White Stag. He started Ackerman's Uniforms in 1985 and sold custom made uniforms to law officers all over the West. The business was sold to Watershed in 2015. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sylvia, sister Phyllis Clayson in California, children Tanja in Texas, Garry II in Arizona, and Juline Saah in Florida. Grandchildren Milton in Idaho, Jeremy in Oregon, Kelvin in Arizona. One Great Grandchild Madison in Idaho. Garry was very involved in the church he attended. He was known around the neighborhood as a friend to all, who always greeted everyone with a hello. He was loved and will be missed by many. A celebration of life will be held at a later date due to the restrictions from Covid-19, Garry will be at interned at Willamette cemetery.
