Biography

Ellinor was a Friend (Quaker)

Ellinor Abbott was a Quaker. She first appeared in the Quaker records in the sufferings for county cork in 1701 when she appeared running a farm together with Sarah Day. ^[1] It is unusual for women to appear in the sufferings as having lost crops or goods for tithe, and the women that do appear are almost exclusively widows. She appeared in the same record the following year, but this time with Benjamin Head, ^[2] identifying her as the sister of Sarah (Abbott) Head (abt.1673-1724) who as Sarah Day had married Benjamin Head in 1701. She continued in the Sufferings, apparently running her own farm, until a final entry in 1705.

In 1706, she married Joseph Massey, who had consistently appeared in the same book of sufferings, running another farm close by. ^[3]

Eleanor Massey died in 1739. ^[4]
