I want to verify the birth parentage of my great-grandfather, Asa Thomas, whose mother is listed as Lettie Thomas on one census and as his sister on another. Also, the top candidate for his father is Bernhardt Berg. However, a DNA Match believes it to be his brother, Emanuel "Mario" Berg, instead.

My paternal GM Anna Baer Berg, b. Karlsruhe, DE, 1889, had a son Josef Berg;Christina Berg , the mom of Josef suppressed the "von" before Berg except for her children's birth registration. The surname "von Berg" in my tree is said by the WikiTree members that its literal meaning (of mountain or of the town of Berg) is its only meaning, not that it conveys an elite's relationship to the land. But Christina's father was a von Berg. All became a family rumor, for Europeans ignored elitism later.

My Berg family "originated" in Germany and came to Chicago. After many children and apparently many deaths in the family from living in Chicago they moved to Belvidere, Boone County, Illinois. "Needed to move out of Chicago to save my grandfather's life"
