Do you think there really was another couple called Roger Coombes and Charlotte Drew active in Australia around the same time?  Or is it possible that Roger is a bit of a shortcut for Roderic?

Thank you Shirlea...my fellow was mostly around Singleton NSW.
Sorry Shirlea...just getting used to this format. Thank you for your time in answering my query...I do have the information you posted...I have been chasing my Coombes for years.

For some reason they dock in Sydney but then travel to Dalby/ Toowoomba for a period of time. James christened there...he is one of the few of their children who make it to adulthood.

A great part of their lives are then spent in Whittingham, Singleton. They lose several children there and sadly Charlotte dies of consumption aged 42. I have found a possible remarriage for Roderick, who then possibly returns to Queensland.

Sometimes the name is Roderick, sometimes Rodger.

I will try and track down their marriage, but it will have to be parish records in Ireland prior to civil registration ...

Again...thank you for your time....

Regards ...Maxine Russell
Hi Maxine

Roderick can also be Rodyer, Roger, Rodger and Roderic. I have it that James was  born in 1831 in Hinton, NSW.

Kind regards

Kerry Coombs
Hi Kerry...thank you for your time. My Coombes came to Aust aboard Subraon in April 1848.... briefly in Queensland...James baptised there...then moved to Singleton. Charlotte died in 1858 and Roderick/ Roger remarries in 1861 ..at Singleton ( Patrick’s Plains) to Bridget O’Brien. I think they move to Toowoomba in Queensland by electoral rolls...I can’t find a death for either of them.

Regards...Maxine
Hi Maxine
Thank you for your reply and the Coombes information, especially that of Roderick's emigration.

I have conflicting information re Roderick's birth date and James', his son, birth date.

Roderick, 1817 in Ireland, and James in Hinton NSW in 1831. That would mean that Roderick was 14 when James was born.

Another question:

I have James marrying Emma Barwick, daughter of George Barwick in 1860. My uncle had partially completed my father's family tree with these details.

I have just viewed something on Wikitree re James Coombes, son of Roderick and Charlotte,  marrying Margaret Sheehan. James being born in Ipswich, Qld in 1851and dying in 1930.

I'm confused!!!

Kind regards

Kerry
Hi Kerry....not sure about your James..do you mean Hinton near Maitland? Was James mother Charlotte née Drew?

I have James as baptised Aug 1851 Drayton Qld. He is one of the few of Roderick and Charlottes to survive childhood...he died in the 1930’s in Tenterfield and I think he was married to Margaret Sheehan...

I’ll write to you shortly...would love to have more clarity here too!

Regards ...Maxine

PS...haven’t concentrated on Roderick and Charlottes children too much...still trying to get info on Roderick and Charlotte.
Hi

Looking for an answer from Shirlea Smith.  My wife is a 6 gen descendant from charlotte Smith nee Coombes married to Robert Smith from Roma Queensland.  Are you related through this Robert Smith.

Thank you for the immigration image of the Cooms arrival.

Cheers NevP
Hi Nev! Welcome to WikiTree!

I don't think so, but if we keep building our trees up and sideways, we might find a connection!  Is there a profile here for Charlotte?  My Smith folks were from the southern edge of Cambridgeshire: Litlington, Guilden Morden etc.  Several rellies went to Australia, but their names were Bird, Christmas, Sharp....you can see my Cambs-born grandfather here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Smith-123457
