Willam A. Reynolds married my great grandmother in 1870 or so after having come to Mississippi from Maryland.  Family lore has it that he came south to teach, but I can find no evidence of that.  I suspect he came as a Union soldier, was captured, then released after promising to fight no more.  What I haven't been able to determine is, who were his parents?

Familysearch.org has a census 1880, with wife Plassida. Might have more records.

Thanks so much for digging into this for me.  There is also information in the 1870 Census and in the marriage records of 1870 in Louisiana.  I'm still stuck, however in the effort to identify William's parents.  Thanks again!
