Steady Eddie, hardly Ardleigh

I'd love to find some more information on my fourth great grandfather Edward Steady.

I've found him through his son James Steady, b1825 in Brightlingsea, Essex, so please look at this from that point of view (bottom up not top down if that makes sense)

James' christening record from Brightlingsea names parents Edward and Sarah Steddy

The only Edward Steddy/Steady that I've found in the right era married a Sarah Prior in Ardleigh. This is 20 miles away from Brightlingsea. It's not a bad match though. There's literally almost nothing else that I can find.

Edward was marked as a labourer on James's baptism certificate.

Any help would be greatly appreciated - thank you!

These facts were pulled from a record by a computer and may not be accurate. Obituary records often include facts for family members of the deceased, some of whom may be living.
Thanks Betty!

So the first one I think (though I can't access the record) is John's birth or baptism.

Second one might be wife Sarah's death record. This matches what I found in freebmd but it also has a middle name of Elizabeth which is interesting.

I loved the newspaper! And there is indeed an Edward Steady (a rare sighting), but I think because it's in America it's probably not the right one.

Found him!!!!!

First I found his family in the "Unofficial 1796 census of Ardleigh conducted by vicar Rev. John Kelly in response to the threat of invasion by Napolean Bonaparte" at http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~melanie/genealogy/1796census.htm

Then his brother John I found a tentative 1841 census record in Greenwich hospital for retired seaman (miles away from Essex. The name, occupation and birth year matched up. And low and behold looking at the original document I see Edward Steady, with the correct age. To me that is a pretty good indicator this is the proper Edward and John Steadys even though the hospital is a little away from where they were born.

So now I have not only Edward's parents and a whole bunch of siblings (most without any other records yet...) but I have his 1841 location. Progress :)

Now I'm struggling to get back past his father John Steady. His mother Sarah Sadler has a fairly good trace backwards though so that's good.
