It’s late at night and I just received my first ever DNA test results. It looks like WikiTree added it automatically. Is that possible?
No, Anella. WikiTree doesn't know anything about your DNA test, so could not add it automatically. You need to enter the information that you have taken a DNA test yourself. From the drop-down list under 'Add' at the top right of your profile, select "DNA Test Information". That will take you to the page where you can enter the information yourself. WikiTree only updates DNA test information once a day, so you will need to wait about 24 hours to see your test information on your profile and also on your relatives' profiles (as appropriate, depending on the type of DNA test you took).
That’s what I thought. It is weird though because it looks like it’s already there. Even though I just got my results last night and I definitely haven’t entered it into WikiTree.
I'm not sure what you see that you think is your DNA test information. I don't see any DNA test information on your profile.

Hi Pamela and welcome to WikiTree!!

We do not add the results as in Raw Data to WikiTree. Instead, we add the testing company, kind of test and the test number plus your name as it appears on the test. To do this look at your profile page. In the upper right corner check on the "Add" button. The first item in the drop down box is "DNA". Click on that and follow the instructions there.

If you have any other questions, please return here and ask.

Within your Ancestry.com account, look under DNA then Settings.  In there you should find an option to "Download Raw DNA Data".  When you select that, it will download your raw data to your computer.

Then, you can goto GEDMATCH and set up a free account.  GEDMATCH has a service where you can upload your Raw Data.  When you do that, GEDMATCH will then provide a GEDMATCH ID for your raw data.

Then on your WikiTree Home page, select "ADD". Within "ADD" is a option to "EDIT OR ENTER MORE DETAILS".  This is where you can add your GEDMATCH ID for your raw DNA data.

Your DNA data will then propogate thru your WikiTree ancestry tree back about 6 or 7 generations.

You do not have to open a GED match account if you dont wish to - although it is free. If you only have any ancestry account, then your ancestry test details are sufficient to get you started in wikitree.

And to clarify Andrews last comment - the DNA test details will propagate through Wikitree, not the raw DNA since wikitree does not accept the raw DNA data.

Hello Pamela,

Have you taken AncestryDNA’s discontinued maternal lineage (mtDNA) test or have you taken their current autosomal DNA test?

If you have taken the mtDNA test then add your mtDNA results to mitoYDNA: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:MtDNA_instructions_for_mitoYDNA and then add your mitoYDNA ID to your DNA Tests page in Wikitree.

If you have taken AncestryDNA’s autosomal test then in WikiTree delete your “AncestryDNA maternal lineage” test and select that you took the “AncestryDNA” test.  Register at GEDmatch.com and add your AncestryDNA results there.  Then enter your GEDmatch ID on your DNA Tests page in WikiTree.

Thank you Peter,

I will do as you suggested. I think I ha e uploaded my MATERNAL DNA on Gedmatch.  I will recheck.

Rcheers,  pamela Evans
Hello Pamela,
GEDmatch is only for autosomal DNA and X chromosome (but you can add a male's Y haplogroup and/or a person's mtDNA haplogroup to GEDmatch).
There are separate instructions to upload mtDNA results to mitoYDNA:
One key point about uploading mtDNA to mitoYDNA is you have to use the Chrome browser and install the mitoYDNA Chrome App.
Most sincerely, Peter
