New Family Reunions page

Yesterday, I got to wondering whether there are any family reunions for the surnames that I'm following in the One Name Studies I manage. So, I searched for "Slade Family Reunion", and got a bunch of hits for events about which I have been blissfully ignorant up to now. (And, as it happens, the reason for that is that the reunions I got hits on are for branches of Slades which aren't represented on WikiTree.)

So, I'm thinking that I need to pay more attention to family reunions, especially reunions that I would be eligible to attend, so I can go and gather information to enter into WikiTree, and possibly raise WikiTree's profile among the attendees.

Therefore I started a Free-Space Profile: Family Reunions. If you hear about an upcoming family reunion, please add it to that page (or leave a comment if you're not comfortable editing tables).

Great idea!  I hope folks use it.

Thanks, Cherry. Me, too. Searching for "family reunion" gives me lots of hits on how to hold a family reunion, pages on "why you should hold your family reunion here", and stuff like that, but precious few sites for family reunions that are coming up. I thought I had hit paydirt when I found a site which was supposed to have a database of family reunions, but apparently it's not being maintained anymore, because every time I tried to search, I just got an error message. I'm kind of surprised that there aren't sites listing upcoming family reunions. You'd think there'd be a demand for that.

Hey thanks for the suggestion, that's a great idea. I'm currently trying to look up family reunions right now. I haven't found any yet but I came across a FB Page of a surname that they're trying to connect all around the world. So I'll post my connection to that surname and leave a Wikitree link.

Chris told me that there's a form for creating a free-space profile for a family reunion right here on WikiTree, so I've added a link to that from the Family Reunions page. I also found a Family Reunion Ideas page, so I linked to that, too. (Actually, I got a number of hits on pages for family reunion ideas, so I plan to add a few more as I have time.)

I also learned that adding a year to my search (as in, "family reunion" 2020) was much more likely to bring up hits for actual family reunions (although my results still had lots of "hold your family reunion here!" hits mixed in there). But then I ran into a different problem: most of the family reunion sites I came across were for descendants of a particular couple, and that couple usually wasn't very far in the past, so the "target market" for those sites is usually on the order of a couple of hundred people. So then I began to worry that people might get upset at seeing their "private" family reunion advertised on a site they're not part of. I tried looking for reunions for surnames from my own family tree that I'd be able to attend myself, so I could check with the organisers to ask if they'd mind if I posted the reunion here, but I got no results for any of "my" family names.
