Hello all!

I will be visiting the Somerset Heritage Centre in Taunton, Somerset, England on Friday 11 October and am hoping that I am able to assist a few folks.

Please can you ensure that you check out the links to the guides and the catalogue below when making your research request. Many thanks.

If you would like me to do a look-up for you, please let me know with as much detail as possible relating to the ancestor you are looking for in the Somerset area and I will see if I can help you.

Please check out the online research guides at image http://www.swheritage.org.uk/research-guides for information and also the Collection Catalogues at image http://somerset-cat.swheritage.org.uk/collections/all to pinpoint what you would like to be looked up for example, check a workhouse or quarter session record, look up information on a will or check some non-conformist documents.

Also note that many of the parish baptism, marriage and burial records are now available on Ancestry (paid subscription site). Search for Somerset in the card catologue. Many Somerset newspapers are available on image https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk (Paid subscription site)

Please can you ensure that you submit your request by Monday 7 October so that I can request your document prior to my visit.

Many thanks.

What a shame I am working on Friday, could have popped in as family live in Taunton and I need to get back into visiting Heritage Centre. Haven't been since all was at Obridge.I go back to the days when staff used to outnumber visitors.
They are a great team at the centre, I go maybe one day every other month to see them as part of my One Place Study of The Crescent in Taunton.

I am descended from William Arnold (b. 1587) at Ilchester, and Alice Ann Shearn (b. 1843) at Stanton Drew. Her maternal family, Stevens, still resides in the area, I believe. The Shearns removed to New England and eventually settled in Ansonia, Connecticut.
