Trying to Find Dorothy Hansen born 1900, Nicholas Hansen, Native Americans...

My family and I have sketchy info about my Grandmother Mueller... She was born in Illinois, in about 1900.  Her name is DOROTHY HANSEN... Her father was NICHOLAS HANSEN... This is where it gets complicated... Nicholas was a displaced American Indian... He was taken in by a family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and took their name of HANSEN... I do not know what my Great Grandfathers, Great Spirits given name was... Dorothy was born in Illinois, so I have no idea, if a birth certificate was even created, since she was NATIVE AMERICAN...  Help!  Thanks for anything you can do...

Dorothy did have a sister, I know her name but not sure of the spelling.. Effy, or Effi Hansen.  She never married.  I do not know who the mother was of Dorothy or Effy-i.  Dorothy married PAUL MUELLER, in Milwaukee, WI in the early 1920's.  They had 2 boys.

Hello... Is there any way to verify my GREAT GRANDFATHER being American Indian / Native American? This info seems to be accurate.  Did not know about WILLIAM... Where do I find this census info?  They were from Illinois, at one point... This is very informative... Anna ?  Any way to determine MAIDEN NAME? NICOLAS was to have been NATIVE AMERICAN... Thank you..
