I am seeking any information as to the life and family of a man named Clifford Wilson. He was 1 year and 9 months old in January 1905 when he was placed in the Oakland Children’s Home operated by the Oakland Ladies Relief Society. His parents were Meta D Niemeyer (1873-?) and Frederick John Wilson (1860-1903). The death of his father resulted in the removal of all children from the home. He had a full sister named Ione. He had two half sisters named Mildred and Frances, and one half brother named Fred from Frederick’s previous marriage. In 1910, Clifford is found on the US Census in the home in Oakland, CA. Records show he is still there in 1918. Then ... he disappears. His mother remarried, but disappears around 1913. Hoping to find descendants or at least what happened to Clifford.

There is a record for Fred Clifford Wilson born April 5 1903 in San Francisco, registering for the WW2 draft, giving his residence on February 16 1942 as Alameda.

Meta Wilson married Jacob Drum August 1906.

From find a grave bio

Meta D (Niemeyer) Wilson Drum was born in July of 1873 to German parents. On January 10,1900 she married Frederick John Wilson in San Rafael, CA. He was a widower with three children (Mildred, Frances & Freddy). They lived in Eden Township in Alameda County, CA in a home Meta owned prior to her marriage. On July 25, 1901, in order to validate the legality of their marriage, they were remarried. Their daughter Ione Marie Wilson was born on the third of September that year, and their son Clifford was born around March of 1903. Frederick died from tuberculosis on September 9, 1903, leaving Meta responsible for the care of all five children, the oldest one being 8. It is unknown why, but Meta was not the guardian or caregiver for any of the children, not even her own. The three girls ended up in the Mary R Smith Home for Friendless Girls and the son (Freddy) was fostered out of the family. Clifford was in the Oakland Children's Home from 1905 until at least 1918. In 1906, Meta married Jacob Drum, a soldier. There were no known children of this marriage. They were still married in 1910, but by 1915, Jacob has remarried and had a son. It is unknown if her last marriage ended in divorce or if she passed away. In 1913, there was a series of advertisements in the Oakland Tribune (Oakland, CA) requesting Mrs. Meta Drum or anyone knowing her whereabouts contact Mrs. M at a numbered box in care of the newspaper. Meta D (Niemeyer) Wilson Drum disappeared at some point between 1910 and 1913.

There is a marriage record for Frederick C. Wilson Apr 1947 to Marcella Tobeck . They resided in Stockton & Lodi where he worked as city treasurer in both cities. The last listing is 1969 Lodi

Thank you! I actually created her Find A Grave. smiley

Eddie, thank you! I will check that out. My only hesitation would be that there was already a son named Frederick Henry (b 1896), but with German naming customs, I suppose it’s entirely possible that he could have named both of his sons Frederick.

Marion, thank you! This is the census I referred to where he is in the Children’s Home, I think. I wish I knew where he went from there ....
