I'm helping a colleague identify her interesting origins. I have not created profiles for these individuals yet.
I'd like to see Canadian census records for any time between 1922 and 1947 for William Watson in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada. I only know he was an adult by 1922.
I've never researched Canadian census records. Do they even exist for this time period?
Thank you!
[Notes to self: Walter Watson and his wife Margaret/Maggie Ross were married in Scotland about 1920; they emigrated to Canada in 1921 [record found; destination: Foxwarren, MB]. Maggie gave birth to Margaret Isabel on 21 Dec 1921 [we have record] in Birtle (adjacent to Foxwarren), and then died 10 days later [we have record]. Four and a half months later (10 Apr 1922), newly fathered and newly widowed Walter Watson crossed into the U.S. at Detroit, at which time he indicates that his closest relative was one William Watson of Brandon, Manitoba. There is no indication that Walter took his infant daughter with him. Our current theory is that Walter left his baby daughter with his "closest relative, William Watson of Brandon" when he left Canada. At some point his daughter went to Scotland, where she lived with other Watson family members in Aberdeen [78 Dee Street, definitely; possibly 111 High Street] until 1947, age 25, when she returned to the U.S. to join his father and his new family in Michigan [records found]. We're trying to determine at what point Margaret Isabel Watson went from Canada to Scotland, and who she was living with.)
