Clan Douglas membership

Hi All

On reading the criteria for membership of Clan Douglas I would like to confirm that my husband's family (Prentice) who are not a sept of Clan Douglas but through his father's mother, who family has carried the name Douglas as a Middle name eg.James Douglas Prentice, mother Isabella Douglas Hogg, whose father was Hugh Douglas Hogg etc, are entitled to use the Clan Tartan,  which they have been doing for some time.. I am asking as I would like to add this fact to both my husband and father-in-law's profile and as far back as I can trace if possible. see the example profile below

Jackie, to be utterly blunt anyone can wear any tartan they choose except those restricted to e.g. private clubs and military regiments or the Royal Family. In my opinion as a Clan Genealogist and Team Leader of the Scottish Clans Protocol Team, I see no reason why you should not add a reference to family member profiles to the effect that they wear the Douglas tartan to reflect a pride in bearing the name Douglas within the family.

Thanks for your answer.  I wasn't concerned so much about them wearing the Tartan but as an (whispering) English person I didn't want to ruffle any feathers when I started plastering the tartan all over their profiles lol
