Hello Friends:
This transcription of the letter was picked up from the associated FindAGrave Memorial #27709786 profile. Any chance that a more direct (Chuckatuck Monthly Meeting, Nansemond County, Virginia minutes, perhaps) citation is available of the famous George Fox letter?
1672 Oct letter from George Fox via Elizabeth River to Friends in Nansemond, VA. Friends William Denson, William Yarret, John Porter, George Kemp, Thomas Jordon, Edward Perkins, William Pope, Robert Lawrence, '''Thomas Hollowell''', Levin Bufkin; Friends ye above mentioned are to keep a man's meeting once a quarter and if John Fowler's house be too farre off then ye may appoint it at '''Thomas Hollowell's''' or other place as you may see most convenient and William Yarrett may send to that little meeting above Jamestown, if there be any man there that they may know who it is, and if there be any other faithful Friends that ye know of make tam acquainted with ye meeting so that once a quarter ye and they may meet together in the power and wisdom of God.
Also, anyone know the John Porter of the letter? His probable grandson exists on WikiTree (please see related G2G discussion is this perhaps near kin of John Porter of the famous George Fox letter to Quaker friends), but with no ancestors.
Lastly, if we can develop a direct citation of the letter, given the impact on the Society of Friends in colonial America, I think it ought to be featured on George Fox's page and an effort made to identify the other leaders addressed in the letter (including John Porter).
Thanks!
I'm appending this discussion, too: Source for general discussion or names for George Fox's immediate circle?
