No question, but request about the edit page

To whomever WT techie is listening.

Would it be possible to make the editing header (with bold, underline, citation button, etc.) float instead of scrolling out of sight as we work further down the page?

And, in the enhanced editor mode, could the page not jump to the top whenever we copy (control c) anything, but rather remain stationary?

My life would be so much easier.  And my parrot wouldn't be learning so many dirty words.

Thank you!

That jump to top is SOOO aggravating!  It would really be great if that was fixed.  However, I haven't been able to figure out the exact trigger.  It's not consistently repeatable.  It doesn't do it on Ctl-C copies for me (I don't think), it does it on an occasional Ctl-V paste, and on an occasional pressing of <Enter>, when I want to open up a blank line to enter something.  I haven't been able to predict exactly when it will occur though.

Hi Karen,

Soon we will be working on an alternative editor that's likely to be full screen and include an almost-live preview. (What you're editing what would be on the left. How it will appear on the profile will be on the right.) When we develop this, I think it will make sense to include your suggestion. That is, we should make sure that the editing toolbar remains fixed at the top of the page so it's always visible.

Jamie, can you make sure this is noted on the Trello item?

Thanks!

For anyone interested, the Trello item tracking the live preview is here.

Jamie - hi.   I looked at the Trello preview.  I'm so sorry you have nothing to do.  You must be really bored.

Honestly, though, I should send you a pair of rocket-fueled roller skates.
That's really good news Chris.  Especially if it means the edit window stays in one place, not bouncing up and down with some keystrokes or scrolls.  I like to work with all tags and codes visible, then constantly hit Preview and scroll to see how it looks, and this will be a great improvement.  It should also mean better looking profiles by new users, who often seem to be slow to find the Preview button.

I hope that Jamie will also have a chance to figure out why the <Pre> tag isn't working in display mode after you save (it's on her 'low priority' list in Trello).  It works fine in Preview mode, so is probably something simple.  There's no workaround for the <Pre> tag, and it does work in most Wikimedia sites, works here in Preview mode only.
