Who were the parents, and who was the husband of Elizabeth (Gilbert) Deming?

Elizabeth (Gilbert) Deming is listed as the wife of both John Deming and Jonathan Deming.  Which one is correct?

Elizabeth's parents are given as Josiah Gilbert (d. 1588 in Connecticut, which is clearly impossible) and Elizabeth Belcher.  There seems to have been a much later couple with these names that did indeed emigrate to Connecticut.

Is there any evidence for the maiden name of Elizabeth (Gilbert?) Deming?

Elizabeth Gilbert was second wife of Jonathan, I keep seeing quotes that say married child of Jonathan and Elizabeth (Gilbert) Deming.

Barbour Collection in Wethersfield says Elizabeth Gilbert [d/o Josiah and Elizabeth] born Mar 28, 1654  and also Elizabeth the wife of Josiah died Oct 17, 1682 ae about 50 so would have been born 1632 ish. no death listing for Josiah.

I believe this is the correct Josiah

Elizabeth Gilbert, daughter of Josiah, COULD NOT HAVE been the wife of John or Jonathan Deming!  This is a different family.
Are we talking about the same Demings? What Elizabeth Gilbert were you talking about?. There wasn't a URL
[Src: Deming, Judson Keith. From Genealogy of the Descendants of John Deming of Wethersfield, Connecticut, With Historical Notes. 1904.]

JONATHAN DEMING, (son of John 1) born about 1639 in Wethersfield, Conn.; died 8 Jan. 1700 in Wethersfield, aged about 61; married 1st, 21 Nov. 1660 Sarah Graves, daughter of George Graves{author says she is supposed to be Sarah Graves} , who died 5 June 1668 in Wethersfield. He married 2nd, 25 Dec. 1673 in Wethersfield, Elizabeth Gilbert, daughter of Josiah and Elizabeth Gilbert, born 28 March 1654; died 8 Sept. 1714.

But seeing it in print doesn't make it right.

Jonathan, m Elizabeth ______, Dec 25, 1673, by Samuel Talcott [Src: Barbour Collection of Vital records.]

We know Elizabeth w/o Jonathan is d/o Josiah Gilbert because there is a brouhaha over the distribution of his estate.
*sigh*  Let me start from the beginning; I'm getting more and more confused.  Usually a link is automatically generated when a G2G question is initiated from a profile, but that didn't happen this time and I failed to notice.  This isn't my own family tree, just trying to do cleanup; so I'm not up to speed on the Belcher/Gilbert/Deming connection(s).

Here's the url for Elizabeth (Gilbert) Deming: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Gilbert-166

She was allegedly born on 12 Sept. 1575 at Colchester, Essex, England, daughter of Josiah Gilbert, who was allegedly born 1528 at Shalford, Essex, married Elizabeth Belcher, and died in Weathersfield, Connecticut on 22 Aug. 1588 (that's FIFTEEN eighty-eight, which is clearly impossible).

It appears that somebody is playing games with the Gilbert ancestry here, mirroring names in different centuries.  Maybe the Deming information is equally bad.

The profiles currently show Elizabeth Gilbert (b. 1575) married to two brothers, John and Jonathan Deming, sons of Josiah Deming who was allegedly born about 1545 in Picardie, France.
I absolutely know that totally confused feeling. I can't remember when the last time was I worked on someone in my own line. I just keep getting "dragged" from one profile to the next til I don't know if I'm coming or going.

Yes it appears that someone created another family from births in the previous generations and deaths in the late 1600's

Josiah Gilbert is the son of Thomas. Thomas is the son of Robert.
Would you like me to see what I can do with the mess. There are at least a half dozen Elizabeth Gilberts in the mess
Yes, please!
I already started sorting through it. I will beat it into submission.
I know it has been many years since this thread was created but here I am in December 2020 trying to learn more of my biological family and I've been stuck here with the Deming/Gilbert/Treat/Foot families ...esp when I have three lines going to one of the John Demings! Just curious if this has been solved or partially figured.

 Cheers! Becky Elizabeth ( Simmons)
