I'm looking for any info on John Bentley b. 1782 in MA. He is my 3rd GGFather and I "think" his parents are Nathaniel and Anna (Trowbridge) Bentley of Rhode Island. I've gone to the trouble of having my only male Bentley cousin take the y-dna test, but don't know how to read the results. No one helps you at FamilyTreeDNA. They only sell you the expensive kits. Can anyone here help me?

What Haplogroup is the Y-DNA? A lot of males in Western Europe have R1b. At a minimum, FamilyTreeDNA must have at least indicated the Haplogroup. How many markers were checked?

It's R-M269. How does that help me?
You may want to contact someone at the DNA project. If you go to Find at the top right of this page, you can look down that menu to Projects. Click on Projects and drop down to Topical Projects. Click on the DNA project. See if there is someone in that project who looks like a good resource person for your quest.
