Unconnected, orphaned, awkward.

Question

I adopted an unconnected profile Hayden -164 to try and place. Proposed merge with Hayden -43. 164 had birth date 1590. 43 has birth date 1602. After reading through all the available research, I think 164 is supposed to be the father, but the date cannot be right. I thought a merge would give this unconnected profile somewhere to go. The merge was rejected. Now someone else has changed the date to 1602 on 164 and proposed the merge again. Is this not a good solution?? Also, 164 has a spouse, also orphaned and unconnected. Her name is Unknown Mrs.-Hayden -1. How can we fix her? Do I change her lnab and make her someone legitimate when I create a new profile? Lesson: don't be to eager to adopt those troubled profiles if you're not experienced!

I know what you mean. I work to clean up my watchlist every week and came across a bunch that were really messed up. I was thinking why would I do this. Then I saw that they were adopted. Sometimes I can find no sources at all.

That is why we always caution people about "adopting profiles"   There is nothing wrong with improving orphaned profiles....you do not have to adopt them to improve them....

I learned this the hard way by adopting family members where after I adopted them I could find no records.  Still looking though!
