Is it a myth that gamekeepers didn't go to church on a Sunday?

Doing some work on our poacher turned gamekeeper we both came up with the same tit-bit. Does anyone know if it's generally accepted by social historians or is it just a nice myth?

No idea really, but I guess if the poachers knew they always attended Sunday church services that would be an ideal time to do a bit of poaching.wink
