I wanted to share this family photo of Charles Mellen with the community. Location: unknown. Date: unknown. Uncle Chuck was the commander of a team called "The Filthy 13." which became the movie " The Dirty Dozen " There is a book written by one of the team call Filthy 13.

I really like the way he photographer took this picture with a fading effect around Charles. He is a very handsome young man.

How sad that he died in Normandy during the war in 1943. He was barely a man at 25. We send our young men to war, and sometimes they do not even know what life is about. Not being married or having children.

What a sad story for Charles - but in this picture he looks so happy.
