WikiTree profile: Stacy Church

Ron,

I'm sure you didn't intend harm but it is important that none of us get too attached to our ancestors or the profiles we manage. They really do not belong to us individually. This person existed and was the half-brother of someone related to you. Obliterating his profile and detaching him from his mother and other relatives harms the health and overall purpose of WikiTree. Whether Augustus Satterfield is his father or not isn't relevant to his existence and the need to keep him attached as a son of Rosa Church.

If you have a profile that turns out to be for someone who didn't exist, there are remedies but they don't apply in this case. If you need help, please leave a message on my profile page and I will be happy to lend any assistance I am able.

I have restored the data for that profile.

Destroying a profile that other members have created, improved, and sourced simply isn't acceptable.

Please understand that this is not your tree. It belongs to all of us and our ancestors are not ours exclusively.

This person obviously existed as there are records for him. Why would you want to remove him from the tree?

This is an oops - my bad.  I did not check the edit page or the changes when I answered.  THANX for going behind me and being thorough, Deb!
Thanks, Gaille. I have adopted the profile and reset the privacy level until this can be sorted. Even if Augustus Satterfield is not his father, Rosa Church is his mother and he definitely shouldn't be detached from her profile or removed from WikiTree.

Ron, I'm not sure why you would want to do that, unless that person is not related to you.  The way to do it would be to edit the profile and remove any connections to parents, spouses, and children who are in your tree branch.

I looked at the profile and see that there are no dates for either birth or death.  This is a violation of WikiTree's requirement that a profile cannot be created without at least one date.  I assume that when you added this profile, you must have entered a date and have since removed it.

I also see that the profile's privacy level is open.  That is only permissible for deceased persons, so you must have the death date status checked as "about/uncertain but nonliving" so with no death date the privacy level would automatically become unlisted unless there is a birth date that is more than 100 years ago.  If the privacy level is Unlisted then it would only show as an unlisted person with no information at all showing.

Could you please provide more detail about the profile and why you want to hide it so we can properly advise you on the best way to accomplish this?

I see from the birth source on Stacy's profile (image on FamilySearch) that no father is listed. I also see that in the change logs for Stacy there are notes about there being no DNA match to the "father" Augustus Satterfield.

If it is the case that his mother is Rosa Belle Church but the father is unknown, then this can be reflected in Wikitree by simply detaching Augustus as father. Stacy can remain attached to his mother.

I'd also suggest adding a note to Stacy's profile explaining why Augustus Satterfield is not the correct father, with appropriate sources. This will reduce the chance of Augustus being re-attached incorrectly.

This thread has more discussion about the father not being correct: https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/755719/its-like-a-source-a-thon-in-one-profile
Thanks, Joe. I knew these profiles looked familiar.

There is no "My tree" here at Wikitree, we are working on one collaborative world tree together. If a parent turns out to be an incorrect one, the relationship can be removed, not the person(s). A father can also be marked non-biological, uncertain, confident or confirmed with DNA  using the radio buttons on the edit page.
